Employee volunteers and their family members paint rocks for the San Carlos Community Garden's sensory garden.

Their colorful creations will become part of a space designed to engage visitors through sight, touch and exploration.

New raised garden beds, fresh pollinator plantings and a colorful addition to the sensory garden are among the projects completed during a recent volunteer event at the San Carlos Community Garden.

Tucked into the San Carlos neighborhood, the nonprofit community garden is a scenic place where people can grow food, learn about gardening and spend time outdoors with neighbors and others who share similar interests.

SDG&E volunteers worked on projects throughout the property, replacing and building eight raised garden plots, weeding and mulching garden areas, repainting plot identification numbers and planting pollinator-friendly plants. They also painted rocks that will become part of the property's sensory garden.

The projects support ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the garden, which relies on volunteers to help care for the space and tackle larger projects as needs arise. Each task helps support a community space that continues to grow through the efforts of volunteers and local gardeners.
