As the region’s extended heat wave eases and a change in weather moves in, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is taking proactive steps to prepare for wind, rain and coastal impacts expected to arrive Sunday, with lingering showers possible into early next week. The safety of customers, employees and communities remains SDG&E’s top priority.
“Our teams are preparing for changing weather conditions and are ready to respond if impacts occur,” said Kevin Geraghty, chief operating and safety officer of SDG&E. “We're monitoring conditions around the clock, positioning personnel and equipment where they’re needed most, and taking proactive steps to support reliability. If weather conditions affect electric or gas service, we’re prepared to respond quickly and keep customers informed.”
To help customers prepare, SDG&E offers these important safety tips:
- Secure outdoor items to prevent them from being blown into power lines.
- Always assume downed power lines are energized — stay away and call 9-1-1 and SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343.
- Drive cautiously — storm conditions increase the risk of vehicle accidents involving electrical equipment.
- Take steps now to prepare for possible storm-related outages, including charging phones and backup batteries, stocking essential supplies and planning ahead for any household needs that require electricity.
- Avoid flooded areas and exposed natural gas infrastructure. If you smell gas or suspect damage to a gas line or meter, leave the area immediately, call 9-1-1 from a safe location and notify SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343.
- Give SDG&E crews space to work safely and efficiently.
