Residential electric and gas bill credits total $217 in 2025; Qualifying small business customers receive $162 in 2025
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) residential customers will get an $81.38 credit on their energy bill again in October, thanks to the California Climate Credit administered by the California Public Utilities Commission.
The twice-a-year electric California Climate Credit of $81.38 was first applied to residential customer bills in April. Customers with natural gas service also received an additional $54 as part of the annual credit. Altogether, residential customers who receive both electric and gas service from SDG&E will see a total of $217 in bill reductions from the California Climate Credit in 2025.
Eligible small business customers also received an electric credit in April and a second one in October – totaling $162 for 2025.
“Thanks to collaboration with the California Public Utilities Commission, many households will see lower energy bills in October,” said Dana Golan, chief customer officer for SDG&E. “For those facing financial challenges, we encourage you to reach out – our teams are here to help connect you with assistance programs that are designed to meet your specific needs.”
The California Climate Credit is part of the state’s broader effort to combat climate change. Funded by California’s Cap-and-Trade Program – which requires polluters to pay for their emissions – the credit is issued to utility customers in April and October to help ease energy costs during the transition to a cleaner energy future. The credit amount may vary each year and is subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission.
There is no action required to receive the credit. Billing cycles vary for customers, so not everyone will see the bill credit at the same time in October. SDG&E will also alert customers to the climate credit via email.
