Current Connections Vol. 1: Supporting our community through wildfire season

While peak wildfire season may be behind us for 2025, wildfire risk remains year-round in California. Preparation is essential to protecting our communities.

SDG&E’s legacy of safety, nearly twenty years without a major wildfire from our equipment, demonstrates the effectiveness of our strategic investments and our culture of continuous innovation.

As a national leader in wildfire mitigation, one of the most critical tools we deploy is the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). We know how disruptive a power outage can be, and that’s why we’re committed to transparency. Even when a PSPS is only a possibility, we keep the community informed every step of the way, sharing updates as conditions evolve. Wildfire season brings uncertainty, but our communities deserve clarity, support and trust. And that’s exactly what we aim to deliver.

I recently joined regional leaders at SDG&E’s Wildfire and Climate Resilience Center to deliver one clear message: preparedness is our strongest defense against wildfire. With more than 6,800 wildfires already burning across California this year, the urgency is undeniable. From AI-powered forecasting to real-time fire simulations, we’re investing in tools that not only react, but anticipate.

But resilience isn’t built alone—it’s forged through collaboration. I’m grateful to CAL FIRE, San Diego Fire-Rescue, 211 San Diego, and every partner who shares our commitment. Wildfires are not a matter of if, but when. Let’s stay ready, stay informed, and protect one another. When the winds shift, it’s about safeguarding the community we call home.
